I'm Ashley. I live in Hokkaido, Japan.
I'm a Staff Software Engineer with 10+ years in identity, authentication, and infrastructure. Most of that was at Apollo GraphQL—I led identity platform strategy and the permissions architecture that powers fine-grained access across the product.
I care about making auth and authorization actually usable: things like self-serve SSO that cut enterprise onboarding from weeks to minutes, and zero-downtime migrations that don't keep anyone up at night. I've spoken at GraphQL Summit, RenderATL, Remix Conf, and a few others on authorization, observability, and how to do permissions without the pain.
These days I'm in Hokkaido, learning Japanese and writing about what I've learned. Say hi if any of this resonates.
